Performance testing of seawater desalination equipment primarily verifies whether the system achieves its designed water production capacity, desalination effect, and long-term operational stability. The core focus is typically on membrane systems based on reverse osmosis, but it is also applicable to thermal seawater desalination processes.

 

Water production performance testing mainly includes water production rate (flux), recovery rate, and stable operating capability. During testing, the system is operated under rated pressure and standard feed water conditions, observing whether the water production rate per unit time reaches the design value, and simultaneously calculating the recovery rate (water production rate/feed water volume). This indicator directly reflects the degree of matching between the equipment's processing capacity and the engineering project.

 

Desalination performance testing is the most critical indicator for seawater desalination equipment. Desalination rate is typically assessed by measuring the product water conductivity or total dissolved solids (TDS). High-quality systems generally achieve a desalination rate of over 99%. The testing process also compares different operating stages (start-up, stable, and fluctuating conditions) to evaluate the stability and antifouling ability of the membrane modules.

 

Energy consumption and system efficiency testing includes high-pressure pump energy consumption, energy recovery device (ERD) efficiency, and energy consumption per unit of produced water (kWh/m³). This indicator measures system economics and is an important basis for engineering optimization. Higher energy recovery efficiency results in lower overall operating costs.

 

Operational stability and durability testing includes continuous operation testing, anti-fouling capability testing, and pressure fluctuation response capability. During long-term operation, changes in transmembrane pressure difference (TMP), membrane fouling trends, and cleaning cycles need to be observed to assess the system's reliability in a real seawater environment. Overall, seawater desalination equipment performance testing is a comprehensive evaluation system covering multiple dimensions such as produced water, desalination, energy consumption, and stability.
