Introduction To Seawater Desalination Equipment

Apr 19, 2026

Seawater desalination equipment is an industrial device that converts seawater into freshwater, primarily employing reverse osmosis and distillation technologies. Reverse osmosis uses high pressure to drive seawater through a semi-permeable membrane for highly efficient desalination, typically achieving a desalination rate of over 99%. Distillation utilizes thermal energy for multi-effect evaporation. This equipment is widely used in ships, islands, drilling platforms, and emergency water supply systems.

Typical equipment includes a pretreatment system, a high-pressure pump, reverse osmosis membrane modules, and an energy recovery device. The core components mostly utilize reverse osmosis membranes, reducing the salinity of the produced water from 36,000 mg/L to below 200 mg/L, meeting national drinking water standards. Equipment types include skid-mounted, containerized, and marine-specific models, featuring automated control, multiple pressure protections, and 24-hour operation capability.
